MCP Overview

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets an AI assistant use tools outside the chat. With Urumi's MCP, you can ask Claude, Cursor, or another AI tool questions about your store, and it can look up the answer directly.

How MCP Works

Three pieces work together:

PieceWhat it isExample
ClientThe AI app you type intoClaude Code, Claude Desktop, Claude.ai, Cursor
ServerThe service the client connects toUrumi's MCP endpoint for your store
ToolOne action the server offers"Run a sales report", "Show recent deployments"

You connect a client to the server once. After that, the AI picks the right tool when your question needs it.

What You Can Do

Once connected, your AI tool can work with your store's data and setup:

AreaExamples
Store dataOrders, revenue, products and customers from WooCommerce
AnalyticsAsk questions about your store's reporting data
WP-CLIRead-only WordPress commands, such as listing plugins or checking options
PerformanceResponse times, errors and traces for your store
Change historyRecent deployments and QA syncs
Search ConsoleSearch clicks and impressions, when connected for your store
CloudflareCache and security reads, and cache purges, when enabled for your store
Connected appsApproved tools from apps your store has connected, such as HubSpot or Klaviyo. See Connected Apps.

Which of these you see depends on your role. You only get tools for the things you can already do in the dashboard.

How Access Is Kept Safe

  • You sign in with your Urumi account. The first time you connect, your browser opens the Urumi sign-in page. You never paste a password or API key into the AI tool.
  • You choose the store. On the consent screen you pick exactly one store. Each connection works with that store only.
  • Your permissions apply. The AI tool gets the same access your Urumi account has on that store, and nothing more. If your role changes, the tools you can use change with it.
  • One store per connection. To work with two stores, add a connection for each. Each store has its own server name, so they do not collide.
